Maisie Maris (b. 1993, London) is a sculptor working across metal, textiles, casting, and drawing to create installations that examine the entanglements between human bodies and geological landscapes. Her work explores themes of vulnerability, interdependence, and mourning, often drawing parallels between personal loss—of her home and father—and ecological grief.
Grounded in field research, her process begins with collecting organic matter, plants, and discarded packaging, from which she studies their forms, textures, and histories. These elements are imprinted onto fabric, silicone, and jesmonite, to make fragile yet resilient structures. Through dying, weaving, knotting, and layering, she creates bodies that feel precarious but interconnected, evoking systems of care and repair in the face of environmental and emotional rupture.
Maris holds an MA from the Royal College of Art (2019) and a BA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London (2015).
